Environmental Assessment and Toxic Metal-Contamination Level in Surface Sediment of a Water Reservoir in the Brazilian Cerrado

Polluted sediments limit the useful and biotic life of a water reservoir. Therefore, classification verification contamination pollution levels reservoirs are essentials for preservation biota to organize actions environmental management. Thus, aim this study is determine concentrations potentially toxic metals [lead (Pb), zinc (Zn), nickel (Ni), copper (Cu), cadmium (Cd)] in sediment samples collected reservoir Foz do Rio Claro Hydroelectric Power Plant (FRCHEPP) estimate level by using geoaccumulation index (Igeo). All results were compared with values established CONAMA Resolution 454/2012. The Cu Cd above Level II most analyzed points comparison data resolution, being classified as poor quality sediments. Moreover, Igeo indicated potential Cd. Hence, was between moderately extremely polluted. From work it possible conclude that frequent monitoring FRCHEPP an indispensable action periodic evaluation hydrographic basin region, considering its importance supply power generation state Goiás, Brazil.
